Maria Bengtsson

Swedish soprano Maria Bengtsson studied with Beata Heuer-Christen at the Musikhochschule Freiburg. After a stint as a permanent member of the Wiener Volksoper, she was asked by Kirill Petrenko to join the Komische Oper Berlin, where she stayed until 2007. Bengtsson has since sung at the Royal Opera House, the Opéra Bastille, the Wiener Staatsoper, the Teatro Real in Madrid, the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, the Bavarian Staatsopera, the Staatsoper Berlin and the Aix-en-Provence and Salzburg festivals, among others. Bengtsson is best known for her interpretations in operas by Mozart and Richard Strauss. Among others, she sang leading roles in Mozart's Così fan tutte, Don Giovanni and Le nozze di Figaro, and in Strauss' Daphne, Der Rosenkavalier, Capriccio and Arabella. On the concert stage, she performs the symphonic song repertoire in venues such as the Gewandhaus in Leipzig, the Alte Oper Frankfurt, the Elbphilharmonie and the Konzerthaus and Musikverein in Vienna. Bengtsson has worked with conductors such as Daniel Barenboim, Marc Minkowski, Antonio Pappano and Vladimir Jurowski.
