Karel Deseure

conductor

Belgian conductor Karel Deseure has established a strong reputation across the Benelux region and beyond, appearing regularly with top ensembles such as the Brussels Philharmonic, the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, and the Royal Liège Philharmonic. His versatility is evident in both symphonic repertoire and opera; he made a significant impact with productions of La Bohème and Un ballo in maschera at Opera Zuid and has collaborated with the Dutch National Opera Academy. Additionally, he has served twice as assistant conductor to the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and made international debuts with orchestras including the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra.

Deseure began his musical career as a flautist before dedicating himself to conducting at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague. He refined his craft through masterclasses with legendary figures such as Bernard Haitink and Peter Eötvös. His talent was recognised early on with major awards, including second prize and the audience prize at the prestigious conducting competition in Paris (2012), as well as the coveted Dutch Kersjes Prize. With recent debuts at the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra and recurring invitations from major symphony orchestras, he remains a central figure among the current generation of conductors.
