Pierre Vopat
Pierre began studying the violin at the age of seven with Christian Gerstmans at the Hannut Music Academy. He was quickly encouraged to broaden his musical education through additional teachers, workshops, and masterclasses, including Dirk Van de Moortel, Igor Semenoff, and Philippe Koch.
In 2012, he was admitted as a “young talent” to the Royal Conservatory of Brussels in the class of Shirly Laub. Showing a particular interest in orchestral playing, he participated in several youth orchestras and became a founding member of the Young Belgian Strings, eventually serving as second violin section leader. He also played for four years in the Netherlands Youth Orchestra (NJO), both as second violin leader and concertmaster, and performed for several years in the Musiq’3 Festival Orchestra. During his studies, he had the opportunity to train for one year with soloist Lorenzo Gatto.
After earning his Master’s degree with “great distinction”, Pierre further specialized in chamber music at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels under Eric Robberecht, focusing on piano trio repertoire, and again graduated with great distinction. He has also received several awards, including the Maurice Lefranc Prize and the Bisschop Matthyssen Prize.
Since completing his studies, Pierre has performed with a variety of orchestras, including the Belgian National Orchestra, the Brussels Philharmonic, La Monnaie Orchestra, the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, where he became a permanent member in January 2025.
