Benoît Viratelle

Benoît Viratelle started his musical studies (clarinet and percussion) at the conservatories of St. Maur des Fosses and Rueil-Malmaison (Paris region). In 1999, he went to the Conservatory of Paris (CNSMDP) where he obtained higher diplomas in clarinet, bass clarinet and chamber music with Michel Arrignon, Jean-Noël Crocq and Maurice Bourgue. He was a member of the French Youth Orchestra in 2002 and a laureate of the Meyer Foundation in 2003.

Benoît played in numerous orchestras such as the National Orchestra of the Paris Opera, the National Orchestra of France, the Philharmonic of Radio France, the National Orchestra of the Capitol of Toulouse, the Chamber Orchestra of Moscow, the National Orchestra of Belgium. He plays on a regular basis with several ensembles specialized in contemporary music: 2E2M, Ars Nova, Het Collectief.

Since 2009, Benoit has been the bass clarinet soloist of the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra.

After teaching for 12 years at the École National de Musique de Gennevilliers, he has been professor of clarinet at the Royal Conservatory of Liège since 2011.
