Oliver Engels was born in Cologne where he studied bassoon at the Musikhochschule with Claus Frithjof Boden. Already during his studies he played in the Rheinische Philharmonie in Koblenz, the Remscheider Sinfoniker, and the Gürzenich Orchester in Cologne. He is active as a chamber musician in various ensembles. Together with Ensemble Köln, Ensemble Modern, and the E-MEX Ensemble, among others, he brings contemporary repertoire. Since 1992 he has been associated with the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra as solo bassoon.
