Krzysztof Kubala was born in Warsaw and took his first violin lessons there. He came to Belgium in 1978 and studied with Jerrold Rubenstein at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp. In 1980 he joined the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra as a violinist. Fascinated by the specific timbre of the viola, he decided to delve into this instrument as well. Hindemith's viola sonatas provided the ultimate impetus. Since September 2003, he has been a viola player at the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra. He also participates in several chamber music ensembles.
