Reinoud Van Mechelen

tenor

Belgian tenor Reinoud Van Mechelen is one of the most sought-after Baroque specialists of his generation. Since participating in William Christie’s Le Jardin des Voix in 2011, he has graced world-renowned stages such as Lincoln Center in New York, the Opéra Comique in Paris, and the Royal Albert Hall in London. He is highly acclaimed for his interpretations of major French Baroque roles, including the title roles in Rameau’s Dardanus, Zoroastre, and Pygmalion. Beyond his early music specialisation, he made a notable debut at La Monnaie as Tamino in Die Zauberflöte and as the Evangelist in Bach’s St John Passion with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.

With his own ensemble, a nocte temporis, Van Mechelen further defines his artistic vision, resulting in several award-winning recordings for Alpha Classics, including a Diapason d’Or and a Choc Classica. In 2017, his exceptional talent was recognised in his home country with the prestigious Caecilia Prize for Young Musician of the Year. Van Mechelen balances a busy international opera career, with recent performances at the Staatsoper Berlin and the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, with a deep commitment to the sacred and chamber music repertoire of Bach and his contemporaries.
