Vakhtang Kakhidze
Vakhtang Kakhidze is a Georgian composer and conductor. He trained at the prestigious Moscow Conservatory, where he studied composition with Nikolai Sidelnikov and orchestration with Edison Denisov. He learned the art of conducting from his father, the well-known Georgian conductor Jansug Kakhidze, whom he succeeded as chief conductor of the Tbilisi Symphony Orchestra in 2002. In that capacity, he often collaborates with the orchestra to perform and record his own compositions. To this end, Kakhidze has already entered into artistic collaborations with such well-known names as Yuri Bashmet, Gidon Kremer and his ensemble Kremerata Baltica. As a guest conductor, he has performed with orchestras such as the Prague Symphony Orchestra, the Beijing Symphony Orchestra and the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra. Furthermore, he has already collaborated on stage with outstanding musicians such as Natalia Gutman, Lisa Batiashvili, Eliso Virsaladze, José Carreras and many others. Kakhidze has already received several awards, including first prize in the Competition for Young Soviet Composers and the State Prize of the Republic of Georgia for his musical merits.
