This colourful concert programme beautifully showcases the timeless allure of oriental fairy tales. Inspired by the tales of One Thousand and One Nights, Danish composer Christian Frederik Emil Horneman initially composed a concert overture before deciding to create a full opera around the character of Aladdin.

Fast forward a century and a half, Turkish composer-pianist Fazil Say draws from an ancient Persian saga reminiscent of the phoenix rising from its ashes. Tailored for Dutch brothers Arthur and Lucas Jussen, Say's concerto weaves Eastern rhythms into a captivating piece. Franz Schubert, drawing directly from life, composed his Ninth Symphony, a work immortalized by Robert Schumann as possessing 'heavenly dimensions'.
