The Gewandhausorchester Leipzig prides itself on a history of over 250 years. Legendary conductors such as Felix Mendelssohn and Wilhelm Fürtwangler have all been Gewandhauskapellmeisters. But the centuries-old orchestra’s name is most frequently mentioned in relation to J.S. Bach, who even conducted the world-famous Thomanerchor: the best choice for an authentic performance of the Weihnachtsoratorium. One of Bach greatest choral works, it combines devotion with sheer musical perfection. The warm textured sound of the arias and the choirs sounds even better in the Queen Elisabeth Hall, with the famous ‘Jauchzet, frohlocket’ as an opener and the first highlight. The pure voices of the singers of the Thomanerchor then fill the hall again in two Christmas cantatas. Don’t miss what is sure to be an iconic Christmas concert!
