A flourish of trumpets, birdsong, mysterious forests, Medieval hunting scenes. When composing his Fourth Symphony, Anton Bruckner gave his romantic imagination free rein. If there is one symphony that embodies ‘romantic’ longing for a premodern, unspoilt natural idyll, it’s this one. Under the roof of Antwerp’s Cathedral of Our Lady, Kees Bakels will be putting Bruckner’s sweetest, most melodic symphony on the bill. One thing is for certain: with Bakels at the helm, the Fourth Symphony is set to be a soothing acoustic experience.
