Three times cello
Fans of the cello will delight in this concert. Not one, but three cello soloists will make their appearance. The Swedish composer Anders Hillborg was commissioned by the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra to write a brand new cello concerto for master player Nicolas Altstaedt which is followed by Camille Thomas who will play the viola part in the Concerto for clarinet, viola and orchestra on her cello on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the death of Max Bruch. Next, the spotlights will turn to Camille Thomas and our very own Raphael Bell performing the popular Violoncelles, vibrez! by Italian Giovanni Sollima and, finally, Fabien Gabel will o ̄er a haunting conclusion to this evening of surprise and virtuosity with Messiaen’s intense Les orandes oubliées.
