Aïda Gabriëls

mise-en-espace

Transdisciplinary director Aïda Gabriëls (1993) weaves theatre, music, visual arts, and fashion into a sensory and multilayered stage language. Using opera as a foundation, she develops hybrid projects where disciplines merge and performers undergo transformations. Since her debut with Medeamaterial (2016), she has built a unique body of work, including notable productions such as I Am the Enemy You Killed, My Friend (2017), the Salomé-inspired Dance of the Seven Veils (2021), and the eclectic The Wild Stage (2022).

In 2024, Gabriëls presents Passages at the KMSKA and the performative installation Ethereal Realms, inspired by the science fiction of Ursula K. Le Guin. Simultaneously, she is co-creating SEISMIC, an immersive concert performance with composer Maria W. Horn and the Ictus ensemble. As co-founder of the artist collective Oester (with dramaturg Tessa Vannieuwenhuyze), she is an associate artist at Muziektheater Transparant and artist-in-residence at both the KMSKA and Ancienne Belgique.
