Alexander Melnikov
piano
A graduate of the Moscow Conservatory, pianist Alexander Melnikov rose to prominence following successes at the Schumann and Queen Elisabeth competitions. He is particularly celebrated for his mastery of historical performance, frequently collaborating with the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra and his long-standing duo partner, violinist Isabelle Faust. With a decorated discography—including his landmark Shostakovich recordings—and regular appearances at world-class venues like the Concertgebouw, Melnikov remains one of the most compelling and versatile pianists of the modern era.
