Elena Schwarz

conductor

Swiss-Australian conductor Elena Schwarz studied cello and musicology before dedicating herself to the podium. A regular guest with orchestras such as the WDR Sinfonieorchester and the BBC Philharmonic, she is a staunch advocate for contemporary music, having conducted world premieres by composers like Peter Eötvös and George Aperghis. She frequently collaborates with leading new music ensembles, including Ensemble Modern, Musikfabrik, and Klangforum Wien. Her operatic credits include Hänsel und Gretel (Den Norske Opera), Peer Gynt (Opéra de Lyon), and Adam Maor’s The Sleeping Thousand (Festival d’Aix-en-Provence).
