Mikko Franck

Born in Helsinki, Finland, in 1979, Mikko Franck began his conducting career at the age of seventeen and has since led the world’s most prestigious orchestras in major concert halls and opera houses. From 2002 to 2007, he served as Music Director of the National Orchestra of Belgium. In 2006, he began his tenure as General Music Director of the Finnish National Opera. The following year, he was also appointed Artistic Director, holding both roles until 2013. Mikko Franck became Music Director of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France in 2015. Throughout his ten-year mandate, he has championing eclectic programming and led the orchestra on numerous tours across Europe and Asia. His extensive discography comprises both symphonic works and operas. Recent recordings focus on the works of César Franck, Claude Debussy, Igor Stravinsky, Dmitri Shostakovich, and Richard Strauss. In 2018, Mikko Franck was named an ambassador for UNICEF France and has since undertaken missions to Senegal and Benin. Upon his appointment, he stated: "Every child is unique; every life is important. Every child, regardless of their background, should have the right to live in a stable and healthy environment that allows them to achieve their dreams and develop their full potential." In 2023, the President of the Republic of Finland awarded Mikko Franck the Pro Finlandia Medal of the Order of the Lion of Finland.
