Ragnhild Hemsing
Ragnhild Hemsing is an exceptionally versatile Norwegian musician who has achieved international acclaim for her mastery of both the classical violin and the traditional Hardanger fiddle. Since making her professional debut at age 14, she has dedicated her career to uniting standard classical repertoire with Norway's rich folk traditions. Her 2025/26 season is particularly landmark, as she is set to premiere three new concertos specifically written for the Hardanger fiddle, marking a significant expansion of the instrument's repertoire for the first time in sixty years.
Beyond her work as a soloist with world-class orchestras, Hemsing is a prolific chamber musician and recording artist, frequently collaborating across genres including jazz and folk. She is the co-founder of the annual Hemsing Festival in her hometown of Aurdal and has released several award-winning albums, such as Røta, which earned the Opus Klassik Prize. Performing on a 1694 Francesco Ruggeri violin and a historic Hardanger fiddle once owned by the legendary Ole Bull, she continues to bring the unique sounds of Norwegian musical heritage to prestigious global stages from the Kennedy Center to the Berlin Philharmonie.
