Sarah Wegener

soprano

The British-German soprano Sarah Wegener is celebrated worldwide for her deep expressiveness, stylistic versatility, and brilliant articulation. Her broad repertoire ranges from Handel to the great Romantic works of Strauss, Wagner, and Mahler, extending into contemporary music. She collaborates with top conductors such as Kirill Petrenko and Daniel Harding and shines on the most prestigious stages, including the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and the Royal Albert Hall in London. In the 2025/26 season, she takes centre stage with Strauss’s Four Last Songs and the role of Sieglinde in Die Walküre, which she will perform with the Gewandhausorchester during an extensive tour of China.

Beyond her success on the concert and opera stages, Wegener is a celebrated recitalist and an award-winning recording artist, with accolades including the Choc de Classica and nominations for the OPUS Klassik. Her background is striking, as she was initially trained as a double bassist, which lends a unique musical depth and sensitivity to her interpretations. Since 2024, she has shared her expertise as Professor of Voice at the Zurich University of the Arts. With her passion for both classical and modern repertoire, frequently working closely with living composers, she remains an influential figure in the international music world.
