Tabita Berglund
Tabita Berglund has rapidly established herself as one of the most in-demand conductors of her generation. She is renowned for a charismatic style that combines elegance with precision. From August 2026, she will take up the role of Chief Conductor Designate of the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, before officially beginning her tenure in 2027. She currently holds major positions as Principal Guest Conductor of both the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and the Dresdner Philharmonie.
The 2025/26 season marks a significant phase in her career, featuring prestigious debuts with the likes of the Staatskapelle Berlin and the symphony orchestras of Sydney and Melbourne. Alongside her symphonic work, Berglund is active in the world of opera and ballet, with recent productions of Le nozze di Figaro and The Nutcracker. Her broad repertoire ranges from classical masters such as Mozart and Mahler to contemporary Nordic composers, frequently collaborating with leading international soloists like Jean-Yves Thibaudet and Hélène Grimaud.
Berglund’s musical foundation lies in Norway, where she studied at the Norwegian Academy of Music, initially as a cellist under Truls Mørk and later as a conductor. Before focusing entirely on conducting, she gained extensive experience as an orchestral musician with prominent Norwegian ensembles. Her success was highlighted in 2021 by a debut CD which was immediately nominated for a Norwegian Grammy, underlining her position as a versatile and influential force in classical music.
