We know the piccolo primarily as the sparkling, sometimes mischievous sound in the orchestra. But what happens when this small instrument stands entirely on its own? During the presentation of his new CD, Colori della Primavera, Peter Verhoyen, piccolo player of the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, takes us on a journey of discovery into the many faces of the instrument.
In a unique setting, the piccolo engages in a dialogue with the harp, piano, and acoustic and electric guitar. New works by Flemish composers demonstrate how these instruments can explore, challenge, imitate, and even engage in debate with one another. Live illustrations, animations, and scenography by Ann-Sofie Verhoyen provide a surprising visual dimension.
