Chamber music: Czech Republic
What, a Czech programme without Dvořák? It can be done. The country has produced its fair share of notable composers. Beethoven’s friend Anton Reicha is garnering more and more attention for his contributions to the wind quintet repertoire. His melodious sounds contrast pointedly with the high drama of Miloslav Kabeláč’s Wind Sextet. Another wind sextet, Mládí, is Leoš Janáček’s most successful chamber work, and features bass clarinet and piccolo in addition to the more standard sound palette.
