Europalia españa is a celebration, and this concert by the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra is no exception. Under the baton of Juanjo Mena, with cellist Asier Polo and mezzo-soprano Lidia Vinyes Curtis, you’re invited to bask in the warmth of southern music. Rodrigo’s Concierto in modo galante conjures the charm of old Spain, while Sánchez- Verdú’s world premiere, inspired by the songbook of Joanna of Castile and Philip the Handsome, bridges Spain and Flanders musically. The composer himself will conduct this world premiere. The evening concludes on an intimate and romantic note with Schumann.
