Elgar's beautiful Cello Concerto, written with the memory of World War I, carries the sadness of a requiem. At the end of the score, then, Elgar not coincidentally noted the Catholic funeral formula "Resquiescat in pace. Cellist Kian Soltani shines in one of the most moving works for his instrument. By way of consolation, young promise Jamie Phillips puts a benevolently handsome Sibelius Symphony on the pupiter. British melancholy versus Finnish zest for life. A must for those who want to be overwhelmed.
