Chamber music: music for wind quintet
A wind quintet is the composer’s equivalent of a colour palette for a painter: the combinations of timbre are endless. Musicians of the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra will showcase the distinct tone colour of their instruments during an adventurous programme that includes Ligeti’s spectacular Bagatelles and Ibert’s upbeat Trois pieces brèves. James Topp makes admirable use of the characteristic sound of a wind quintet in his arrangement of one of Janáček’s most beautiful piano works. Finally, the audience is also introduced to Flemish composer Erik Desimpelaere’s formidable Les cing Motets d’Mirage.
