orchestra

The Budapest Festival Orchestra (BFO), founded in 1983 by Iván Fischer and Zoltán Kocsis, has rapidly established itself as one of the top ten symphony orchestras in the world. The ensemble is internationally renowned for its artistic boldness and innovative concert formats, ranging from autism-friendly ‘Cocoa Concerts’ to informal late-night sessions for young adults. In addition to prestigious accolades, including Gramophone’s Orchestra of the Year in 2022 and a Grammy nomination for their Mahler recordings, the orchestra is distinguished by the versatility of its musicians, who regularly perform as a choir during concerts. Through collaborations with the Iván Fischer Opera Company and the recent establishment of the European Orchestra Academy in 2024, the BFO remains a driving force for innovation and education in the international classical music scene.
