Budapest Festival Orchestra
Under the baton of the inspired conductor Iván Fischer, the very popular Budapest Festival Orchestra has in the course of just a few decades been able to rise undisputed to the top rank of international orchestras. In a tribute to the Russian composer Igor Stravinsky, the musicians will be joining forces with the RIAS Kammerchor, which for many years has been well established on the international choral scene. Stravinsky, a musical revolutionary, adopted many different guises. Sometimes he represented the Russian tradition, while at others he stood out as a pioneer of French modernism; at some points he adored the up-and-coming jazz music, and, lastly, he became a champion of neoclassicism. In any case, he certainly made an indelible mark on musical history: since its notorious and scandalous premiere in Paris in 1913, Le Sacre du Printemps has remained one of the most discussed and, what is more, most loved compositions of the 20th century. This extraordinarily Dionysian ballet music pushes the orchestra to the limits of what is playable. This is something you really must experience when played by our Hungarian friends.
