Gábor Takács-Nagy

Born in Budapest, Gábor Takács-Nagy is considered one of today’s most authentic exponents of Hungarian music. After a distinguished career as the founding leader of the acclaimed Takács Quartet (1975–1992), he turned to conducting in 2003. He holds several key positions, including Music Director of the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra and the Manchester Camerata, and is Principal Guest Conductor of the Budapest Festival Orchestra. In recognition of his outstanding contribution to culture, he has received Hungary's highest honours, including the prestigious Kossuth Prize in 2024.

As a conductor, Takács-Nagy collaborates with leading orchestras worldwide, ranging from the Orchestre National de Lyon to the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and La Scala Milan. In 2024, he was appointed Artistic Partner of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra. Alongside his performing career, he has shared his expertise as a professor and reached a significant recording milestone in 2023 with the release of the complete Beethoven symphonies on Deutsche Grammophon. An honorary member of the Royal Academy of Music in London, the versatile musician became a Swiss citizen in 2013.
