Chamber Music
Now as much as ever, there’s something for everybody in Bernstein – classical maestro, jazzy Leonard or musical Lenny. His chamber music, too, jams, swings and dances its way through a variety of different styles. Bernstein has the clarinet take on wildly contrasting roles in his classic Clarinet Sonata and the swinging Prelude, Fugue and Riffs. But the jovial American composer and conductor was no stranger to quiet introspection either, as proven by his Elegy for Mippy for horn and piano. A healthy serving of Bernstein’s chamber works for brass completes our portrait of this composer.
