Nuno Coelho

Born in Porto, conductor Nuno Coelho has been Chief Conductor of the Orquesta Sinfónica del Principado de Asturias since 2022, a position recently extended until 2027. Since winning the Cadaqués International Conducting Competition in 2017, he has built an impressive international career, with recent highlights including performances with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and the Minnesota Orchestra, as well as serving as a Dudamel Fellow with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Alongside his symphonic work—including debuts with the BBC Symphony and Britten Sinfonia in the 2025/26 season—he is an experienced opera conductor with productions such as La traviata and Rusalka to his credit. Coelho, who studied under Johannes Schlaefli and served as Assistant Conductor of the Netherlands Philharmonic, balances a demanding schedule with orchestras like the Antwerp Symphony and Orquesta Nacional de España with a passion for literature and tennis.
