Bach’s St Matthew Passion
Erbarme dich is rightly invariably in the top 3 of classical all-time greats lists, though they would be righter still to list Bach’s entire St Matthew Passion. Never has the Passion story been more movingly told. Baroque specialist Richard Egarr and the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra bring this gripping account of betrayal and death on the cross, whose emotional intensity comes from the blurring of the lines between the earthly and the divine.
