Following his acclaimed debut in 2024, Gábor Takács- Nagy returns to the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra with a programme of quintessential classics. He is joined by the celebrated Canadian virtuoso Jan Lisiecki for Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 22. At its premiere, the work so captivated the audience that they demanded an encore of the melancholic Andante – a rare departure from the usual preference for a spirited finale. The programme opens with Brahms’s Variations on a Theme by Haydn. Though recent scholarship suggests the theme may not be Haydn’s own, the work remains an utterly engaging masterpiece. Closing the evening, Beethoven’s Second Symphony offers a radiant and life-affirming conclusion.
