Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra
The Swedish Radio Symphony Orchesta is one of Europe’s most exciting orchestras, thanks in part to its chief conductor Daniel Harding. Just 46 years old, he has spent more than half of his life working with some of the world’s greatest orchestras, which is impressive to say the least. Harding is also a staunch Mahler fan. He channels his passion for the Austrian composer in this delectable programme, with two works by Mahler. The German baritone Christian Gerhaher, who is also a renowned Mahler expert, will perform a selection of Mahler’s collection of German folk songs, Des Knaben Wunderhorn. Next up is the master’s Symphony No. 4, often referred to as one of the Wunderhorn symphonies because many of their themes originate in the aforementioned songs. The main particularity of this work is the addition of a soprano solo. This will be performed by the young soprano Johanna Wallroth, who has made quite an impression with her performances on opera stages around the world. A great opportunity to see a new generation of extraordinary talent at work. Don’t wait too long to book.
