Vlad Rațiu

Vlad Rațiu started studying music at the age of 15 in his hometown, Cluj-Napoca, in Romania. He perfected with Professor Ștefan Thomasz at the National University of Music in Bucharest and at the Prince Claus Conservatory with Professor Sorin Orcinschi.

From a young age, Vlad had the opportunity to meet, learn and perform with personalities of the music world, including Wynton Marsalis, Michael Sanderling, Lothar Zagrosek, Cristian Măcelaru, Cristian Mandeal, Vladimir Jurowsky, Dorin Marc, Petru Iuga, Catalin Rotaru, Wolfgang Güttler and Gunars Upatnieks.

As a member of several ensembles, Vlad gave concerts in Europe, the Middle East and the United States of America. He has performed on a regular basis with orchestras such as the George Enescu Philharmonic, the Romanian National Radio Orchestra, the Romanian Radio Chamber Orchestra and the Romanian National Opera in Bucharest, the Nürnberger Symphoniker, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra.

Vlad has been the principal of the double bass section at the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra since 2022.
