Martyn Brabbins

British conductor Martyn Brabbins studied with Ilya Musin in Leningrad and rose to prominence after winning the 1988 Leeds Conductors Competition. He established a distinguished career with all the major British orchestras and held key positions, including Music Director of the English National Opera and Chief Conductor of the Nagoya Philharmonic. Brabbins is internationally acclaimed for his versatility, ranging from his advocacy for contemporary Scottish music to his contribution to Hyperion’s celebrated Romantic Piano Concerto series.

An expert in British repertoire, he has revived numerous lesser-known works and is a mainstay at the BBC Proms. In addition to his performing career, he serves as a visiting professor at the Royal College of Music. He made his debut with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in 2012, further cementing his status as a world-class conductor.
