Octopus Symphonic Choir

choir

Octopus is a versatile ensemble that performs in flexible line-ups ranging from 24 to 80 singers. Since its foundation by conductor Bart Van Reyn, Octopus has worked on a project basis, quickly securing a privileged position in Flanders. The repertoire ranges from late Baroque to the 21st century. In addition to many a cappella programs, the choir also performs oratorios and symphonic choral works. Octopus collaborates with orchestras such as Brussels Philharmonic, Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra of La Monnaie, Orchestra of Opera Vlaanderen, Belgian National Orchestra, Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège, NDR Radiophilharmonie, Bochumer Symphoniker, Budapest Festival Orchestra, and Baroque orchestras B’Rock and Le Concert d’Anvers. Besides Bart Van Reyn, the choir has worked with conductors including Iván Fischer, Hugh Wolff, Edo de Waart, Martyn Brabbins, Leif Segerstam, James MacMillan, Laurence Equilbey, Richard Egarr, Ottavio Dantone, Stéphane Denève, and Philippe Herreweghe. Octopus has been a guest at festivals such as Klarafestival, Laus Polyphoniae, Festival van Vlaanderen Gent, La Chaise-Dieu, and Kloster Eberbach. The choir has recorded several albums and was a guest at the Royal Palace in 2022 for the royal Christmas concert.
