Opera Ballet Vlaanderen Chorus
The Chorus of Opera Ballet Vlaanderen was founded in 1989 under chorus master Peter Burian. It quickly established itself as a professional ensemble excelling in both opera and concert repertoire. Today, it is also involved in hybrid productions with the ballet company of Opera Ballet Vlaanderen, such as Satyagraha in a choreography by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and C(H)ŒURS 2022 by Alain Platel. Past chorus masters include Simon Halsey, Kurt Bikkembergs and Yannis Pouspourikas. Since 2014, the Chorus of Opera Ballet Vlaanderen has been led by conductor Jan Schweiger. In 2021, it was nominated as “Best Chorus” at the International Opera Awards. The chorus has previously collaborated with the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, notably in 2022 with a well-received production of Schumann’s Faust conducted by Philippe Herreweghe.
