Yasuko Takahashi

Yasuko Takahashi was born in Fukuoka, Japan, where she began her piano studies at the age of three. She obtained her Bachelor and Master of Music degrees with highest honours from the Elisabeth University of Music in Hiroshima. In 1994, she won the top prize at the Iizuka Music Competition in Japan. That same year, she moved to Antwerp to study with Professor Robert Groslot at the Royal Flemish Conservatoire (RVMC), where she again graduated with highest honours. She subsequently completed a two-year specialisation diploma, finishing in 1997. In the same year, she obtained a Master’s degree in chamber music from the Royal Conservatory of Ghent, also with highest honours.

Since 1997, Yasuko has been an official accompanist at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp, and since 2004, she has served in the same capacity at the Summer Music Academy in Morges, Switzerland. In September 2009, she was awarded the ‘Best Accompanist Prize’ at the 20th Haverhill Sinfonia Soloist Competition in the UK. Since 2010, she has been a professor of piano accompaniment at the International Music Festival/Course in Vitoria, Spain.

In March 2011, together with violist Sander Geerts, she won the Grand Prix in the chamber music category at the International Competition of Young Performers in Madeira. As Duo Agineko, they reached the finals of the International Johannes Brahms Competition in Pörtschach, Austria, in 2011. In April 2012, the duo won the ‘1st Absolute Prize’ and the Special Chamber Music Prize at the 22nd Young Musician International Competition in Barletta, Italy, followed by another special chamber music prize at the 19th International Johannes Brahms Competition later that year. She performs extensively across Europe as a soloist and in various chamber music ensembles, and is a regular accompanist for numerous international masterclasses.
