Ten years after their iconic 2016 BBC Young Musician final, cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason, hornist Ben Goldscheider, and saxophonist Jess Gillam reunite. Bound by friendship, they perform a jazzy triple concerto by Gwilym Simcock, co-commissioned by the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, BBC Proms and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. The programme celebrates Welsh connections with Grace Williams’ Sea Sketches, capturing the ocean’s shifting temperaments. Her mentor, Edward Elgar, provides the crowning glory with his Symphony No. 1. From its stirring themes to the lyrical third movement, this is music of grand gestures and pure enjoyment.

Programme

Williams Sea Sketches for string orchestra

Simcock Triple Concerto for Soprano Saxophone, Horn and Cello
